Homemade Gyros is one of the most popular of recent trending foods on earth. It’s appreciated by millions daily. It’s easy, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. They’re fine and they look wonderful. Homemade Gyros is something that I’ve loved my whole life.

The ingredients needed to make Homemade Gyros:
- Take lamb chops
- Take top sirloin steak
- Prepare pitas
- Take tzatziki sauce
- Make ready olive oil
- Get tomato (sliced then halved)
- Prepare white onion (sliced)
- Get marinade n seasonings:
- Prepare buttermilk
- Make ready season salt
- Make ready brown sugar
- Take dried parsley
- Take dried crushed mint
- Prepare dried crushed rosemary
- Prepare garlic powder
- Prepare onion powder
- Prepare dried oregano
- Make ready dried tyme
- Prepare ground black pepper
- Get jarred minced garlic
- Take lemon pepper
- Prepare ground marjoram
Place the onions into a mixing bowl along with the lamb and beef. Season with the garlic, oregano, cumin, marjoram, rosemary, thyme, black pepper, and salt. So at our house, the homemade gyros are usually made with either ground beef, or a combination of pork and ground beef. I totally get that it's close to heresy to make a middle-eastern dish eaten originally by Muslims and Jews using Pork.
Steps to make Homemade Gyros:

- Thirdly: thank you to @taylor68too for her added seasoning suggestions! Now let's get to cooking!
- Remove bones from meat and rinse under cool water. Pat dry.
- Slice meat into thin 1/4 inch slices and each slice should be about 1-2 inches long.
- In a large bowl, mix all marinade/seasonings. Wisk well.
- Add sliced meat. And toss to coat well.
- Cover bowl and refridgerate for 1 hour to soak. Tossing every 15 minutes or so.
- In a large skillet, heat oil.
- Toss in meat mixture with all the marinade.
- Fry, tossing frequently until outsides of meat is seared and insides are still slightly pink. About 5-10 minutes.
- Drain meat from juices and set meat aside but keep warm. Reserve juices.
- In another skiller heat until hot.
- Lightly brush pitas with a bit of the reserved drippings/juices. This will give pitas a nice flavor.
- Cook pitas until nice n browned but not crispy. ( if u don't like your pitas cooked u can skip this process) spray pan with cooking spray as needed.
- TO SERVE:
- Place desired amount of meat onto a pita.
- Then garnish with onion,tomato and tzatziki sauce.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
So at our house, the homemade gyros are usually made with either ground beef, or a combination of pork and ground beef. I totally get that it's close to heresy to make a middle-eastern dish eaten originally by Muslims and Jews using Pork. But if I want my son to eat any of it? Gyros are a delicious sandwich for lunch or dinner, with spiced, grilled meat topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and a flavorful tzatziki sauce. You can find tzatziki in the refrigerated condiment section of the grocery store or make your own using Greek yogurt, sour cream, cucumber, and fresh dill.
